Patients that are wearing old dentures can often benefit from having a new set created since technology has improved. They fit better and look more natural than they used to and by simply upgrading your dentures, you may start to feel better about your smile.

When you start to wear your new set of dentures, it will take some getting used to. They are a dependable solution for replacing missing teeth but can feel bulky at first. Since it is a foreign object in your mouth, it will take some time to become accustomed to wearing them, speaking, and eating. Don’t worry because after a few weeks it will start to feel more natural.

One concern that many of our patients have is whether or not their dentures will become loose or fall out while eating. This is a natural and common concern because of how embarrassing this can be. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent this. We recommend using an adhesive that can be applied to your dentures in order to help hold them in place. There are several types you can try including a cream and a powder. In order to apply the cream, you need to place three or four drops onto the middle of your dentures. The drops should be the size of a pencil eraser so that the cream doesn’t ooze out later on. If you use a powder adhesive, it should be sprinkled onto the center of the top portion of your dentures. Next, shake it out so that any excess powder falls off.

Place your dentures firmly in your mouth and as long as nothing extra oozes out, you applied the right amount. If it does, use less next time. This is an easy process and can give you the confidence to wear your dentures without fear of them falling out or becoming loose. You can apply it in the morning and reapply if necessary. In fact, you can carry a small travel size adhesive with you and use it before eating dinner, etc.

Every night, make sure that you pull out your dentures to clean them. Use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste to make sure that no food is on the teeth itself and brush away any remaining adhesive. Next, brush your gums and the roof of your mouth to remove any bacteria. You can also rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash. Rinse your dentures in water and soak them overnight in order to complete your daily care routine. This way you can keep your gums and your dentures in good condition. You can use the adhesive again the next day or only as needed.
